Research Scholarship Fund of Central Research Development Fund at the University of Bremen, Germany

The University of Bremen offers temporary post-doc positions that are paid pursuant to salary scale E 13 TV-L for a maximum of 24 months. Additionally, there is an allowance of up to €10,000 per year to cover costs of resources, further training and coaching in the preparation of applications.

Description
Post-Docs at an early stage in their careers can receive support to set up independent research projects to be run under their own leadership and responsibility. Funding is offered in particular in respect of outstanding publications and the preparation of applications for external funding, including the funding of their own temporary position (e.g. temporary positions for principal investigators [Eigene Stelle DFG] or the Emmy Noether program for young researchers). Funding is also available for intensive coaching in the preparation of such applications. Moreover, the Personnel Development Bureau at the University of Bremen offers a range of customized offers to train a broad spectrum of personal skills.

Eligibility
The research scholarship award is available for Doctoral candidates of the University of Bremen and other universities in Germany or abroad who expect to receive their doctorate within the next half year, as well as post-docs who submitted their doctoral thesis at most one year prior to application (periods of practical training in the teaching and law professions [Referendariatszeiten] do not count).

Above-average publication output, an innovative and independent project proposal for the post-doc phase and high expectations of achieving the proposed objectives (the evaluation of previous achievement will take periods of child care into account). The cooperating professor has to submit a detailed letter of intent on how candidates are to be integrated within a research context at the University of Bremen while at the same time maintaining a high degree of independence. The respective research context comprises part of the evaluation.


Application Procedure
The completed application forms together with the cooperating professor’s letter of intent can be submitted once a year to the University of Bremen. The respective BFK reaches its decision on the basis of external review, and then passes on eligible applications to the Office of the University President for approval. The number of positions available is shared equally between the natural and engineering sciences and the social sciences and humanities. At least 50% of the positions are reserved especially for women.

2013 Manatt Democracy Studies Fellowship, USA

Manatt Democracy Studies FellowshipThe Manatt Democracy Studies Fellowship will grant $5,000 and works in our international headquarters in Washington, DC. Fellows are housed in IFES' F. Clifton White Applied Research Center and benefit from access to IFES experts, IFES' online Virtual Resource Center collection, and proximity to the various libraries and organizations in Washington.

Description
The Charles and Kathleen Manatt Fellowship, funded by former U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic and former Chair of IFES' Board of Directors, Charles Manatt, and his wife Kathleen awards one $5,000 Manatt Fellowship ($2,000 upon the start of the fellowship, $2,000 midway through the fellowship, and $1,000 upon receipt of research paper) to bring outstanding graduate students from the American Midwest to Washington, D.C., to conduct research in democracy-building. The Manatt Fellowship marked the inauguration of the Democracy Studies Fellowship programs at IFES.

The Manatt Fellowship is available for U.S. or international graduate students attending universities in the following states: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

Past fellows found the Manatt Fellowship an excellent boost to their careers in international development or research. For example, fellows have gone on to manage programs at the National Democratic Institute and consult for Asia Foundation election programs in Pakistan.

Description
Brookings Institution invites applications for the award of one or two full-time resident fellowships for policy-oriented doctoral research for the 2013-2014 academic year. The fellowships are designed for candidates whose dissertation topics and career goals are directly related to the major interests of the Foreign Policy Program: war and peace issues; shifting power balances; global order and human security. Awards will go to individuals whose research is near completion and will benefit from access to Foreign Policy scholars and the Washington policy-making community afforded by Brooking Institution’s location in the nation’s capitol. Fellowships are supported through generous funding from the Carnegie Foundation.

The fellowship carries a stipend of $27,000, payable in installments over a nine-month period of full-time residency at Brookings. Under the Tax Reform Act of 1986, most if not all of this stipend will probably be treated as taxable income. The Japan government now provides international postgraduate scholarship for students  of Asian Development Bank’s developing member countries. The scholarship will cover full tuition fees and monthly allowance.

Description
The ADB - Japan Scholarship is purposed to provide an opportunity for well-qualified citizens of the ADB’s developing member countries to undertake postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology, and other development-related fields at participating academic institutions in the Asian and Pacific Region.   • Not more than 35 years old at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs which are appropriate for senior officials and managers, the age limit is 45 years old.
  • In good health.
  • Should agree to return to his/her home country after completion of studies under the Program.
  • Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, management and staff of ADB, consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are  not eligible for the Scholarship.
  • Staff of academic institutions are not eligible for the Scholarship.
  • Applicants living or working in a country other than his/her home country are not eligible for scholarships.
  • ADB-JSP does not support applicants who are already enrolled in graduate degree programs.
  • ADB-JSP does not sponsor undergraduate studies, distance learning programs, short-term training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing, and research projects.
