Tips in Maths-Indices

Indices are numbers with powers. The analysis and simplification depend on the basic interpretation and rules of indices as shown below

Basic Interpretation

i. Number with zero power: This is taken as 1 i.e a¤= 1. 20¤= 1
ii. Number with a negative power:

This is taken as the reciprocal of the result remaining when the negative sign is removed.

e.g a superscript -1 = 1/asup1 = 1/a 2 sup-3 = 1/2sup3 =1/2x2x2= 1/8.
Also, 1/8 can be taken as 1/8sup1 =8 sup 1 (as 1 means negative) and 1/8 can be taken as 1/2sup3 = 2sup-3

iii. Number with fractional powers: This is simplified by taking the denominator of the fraction as the root and the numerator as the power of the result remaining.
e.g asupb/c = (square c/a)b.

Laws of Indices

i. Product of numbers with the same base : This is done by taking one of the bases and summing their powers e.g asupb x asupc = asupb+c
Also asupb+c can be broken as asupa x asupc.

iii. Division of numbers with the same base : This is done by taking one of the bases and subtracting their powers e.g
asupb/ asupc or asupb/asupc= asupb-c

questions on Indices

Example 1.
The value of 16sup1/8 is A. 4 B. 2 C. 2squared D. 2 root 2 Tip (2sup4) = 2sup1/2 = 2square Ans D.

What Parents and Teenagers need to know about Discipline

Daily tipWhy are Teenagers disciplined? Does it mean teenagers cant live with their parents without being desciplined? Check out this challenge, the family rule is cell phones off 9:00 p.m, but twice this week you caught your daughter texting past midnight. Your curfew is 10:00 p.m., but last night once again you came home after 11:00. Teenagers can do better. But first you need to know why he or she seems to be flouting your rules. The good news? What appears to be outright difiance may be something far less serious.

WHY IT HAPPENS

Unclear boundaries. Some teenagers ignore rules in order to see what that they can get away with. For example, if a parent has said that a certain misdeed would result in a particular consequence, a teenager might test boundaries to see if the parent will follow through. Are such teenagers becoming hardened rebels? Not necessarily. The fact is, teens are more likely to be lax about obeying rules when parents have not been consistent in enforcing consequences or when the boundaries have not been clearly defined. Rigidity. Some parents try to control their teenager with an endless list of rules. When the teen disobeys, the parent gets angry and imposes even more rules. Often, however, that only makes matters worse. The book Parent/Teen Breakthrough, explains '' The more you try to gain control, the more your teenager resists,'' adding '' The control approach feels like trying to spread cold butter on soft bread: it just tears the bread apart, and the solution isn't to spread harder.'' We know that proper discipline can help. Different from ''punishment'' which means to make someone suffer while ''discipline'' basically means to teach. Tips on What Teenagers Can Do Be clear: Teenagers need to know precisely what is expected of them and what the consequences of disobedience will be. Be reasonable. Show yourself to be a flexible parent by according more freedom as it is earned. Teenagers should also be reasonable and wait for the right time to approach their parents. What now is the answer to those questions? I bet you know it! For post like this and others follow us on Facebook below Feel free share!

Must know-What Makes Music a Hit?

What makes music a hit
Today the music industry is ultracompetitive. Especially the Nigerian music industry.
Musical tastes change, new tastes and musical equipments supersede the old. Promoters are always looking for the hottest new sound. Turning that sound into a hit is a challenge which is not easy. A lot of people dream of becoming recording stars. What they do not know is the amount of work and effort required.

What is involved

1. Be a songwriter: As a song writer you should aim to write lyrics that touch people's emotions, that tallies with their hopes, dreams, and deepest feelings. Songwriters try to create melodies with a hook, you know, a catchy musical phrase that grabs the listener's attention and stays in the mind.
As a songwriter you should be familiar with making a pilot recording, or demo, of the song. If the recording company executives think that the song is marketable, you may just land yourself a recording contract. Or they may buy your song for an established artist to perform.
In the Studio. To oversee the recording, record companies usually hire an experienced producer.
Read Browse your way through lots of benefits
The producer will now approve the song. He may hire and supervise the recording studio, copyists, vocalists, recording engineers, arrangers, and other equipment needed to produce a professional product which is good for the market.
Some recordings are done step-by-step often beginning with the guitar, bass, drums, including keyboards. Followed later by lead vocals, instrumental solos, and any special sound effects are added and mixed together to produce a potential hit. Sales. The only way to sell their products, is through marketing. To promote it a video has to be produced for the song, known as music videos. These short three to five minute videos may provide some excitement and give artists media exposure. The videos alone generate significant income when marketed well. Artists consistently sell more of their albums in areas where they perform live. They often promote a brand new album by going on tour and concerts, some artists create a personal Web site for promoting their works. Their Web site may contain photos, videos, a personal blog, and news of upcoming performances and concerts, links to fan zones and clubs and to online music store.
A question for you. Who determines if a song will be a hit?.
The music industry is changing fast due to the internet and inexpensive recording tools like software and hardware. Some musicians are able to record quality music at home and distribute it to a global audience. As a result many artists are leaving record companies.

Must Know On Social networking

social networks

Social networking, some say is the best way to keep in touch. Many social networks exist, the most popular one is Facebook. Facebook has over one billion active users worldwide, Time magazine reported "If Facebook were a country, it would be the third largest, behind only China and India." Another popular social network site is twitter.

Read browse your way through lots of benefits

What really are social networks?

A social network is a web site that allows users to share information with a selected group of friends. Social networks are also great ways to stay connected, networking socially are convenient ways to share photos and videos to friends no matter where you are.

Social networking how it works

A. post a message, status update in Facebook, tweets in twitter
B. All of those on your list of friends or followers will receive your message when they log on to their page and you receive their messages when you log on to your page.

Dangers of Social networking

1. Privacy: When registering for an account on Facebook, twitter or any other social networking site, you will be asked to provide your profile information, photos etc, if you are not careful with the details mentioned above including your status updates, and comments it could reveal too much about you. For instance they might reveal information like where you live, when you are at home and when you are not, where you work, your school etc. Imagine updating or tweeting this "Am off to Europe tomorrow! Along with your address. That alone is enough information for a thief to know when and where to strike.
Solution: Be familiar thoroughly with the settings especially the privacy settings on your social network, and use them to restrict access to your status and photos to people you know and trust.

2. Time FactorNetworking with friends consumes time, in fact it has been proven, the amount of time spent by a user on a social networking site far exceeds the amount of time spent watching T.V or any other type of entertainment. Have you heard yourself say "Just one more chat then am off to bed" yet you don't seem to stop, true managing our time especially when doing something we love like chatting on Facebook is very difficult and then later just like drugs extremely difficult to break free.
Solution. Set time: Timers like alarms, will help you with that, it is not just ok when you decide to use your watch or clock to time yourself, reason? Sometimes while networking you might completely forget the time! If you hate those blaring loud alarms go get it because that's the type that will remind you the time annoyingly not nicely.

Note: Two must popular networks Facebook and Twitter are used as a way of reference, all concepts still apply to other networking sites.
