Mexican American scholarships are specially offered by the Council of Mexican Federations (COFEM), its affiliated Federations, and sponsoring partners. This Mexican American scholarships program are for outstanding students who are immigrants or of immigrant descent and are affiliated to a COFEM Federation or Club* or is an AB-540 student and are pursuing a higher education.

Mexican American scholarships will cover in the amounts of $500 to students attending a Community College, $1,000 to undergraduate students attending a 4-year College/University, and $2,000 for grad students will be awarded.

Eligibility
In order to be qualified to the Mexican American scholarships you must be in enrolled in an undergraduate program at a 4-year accredited University, a 2-year program at a Community College, a graduate program at an accredited University, or a freshman in College by the fall of 2012 to be eligible.

Application Procedure
The application asks for the basics (resume, one letter of recommendation, eligibility information) along with an essay of no more than 2 pages that explains why you should receive the Mexican American scholarships. These questions should be addressed:
  • How do you believe this scholarship will help you contribute to the fulfillment of COFEM’s mission statement through your intended career?
  • How can you help your COFEM Club or Federation be a stronger organization? Or, if you are an AB- 540 student, how can you help your community become stronger and more engaged on issues impacting your community?
