PhD Studentship in computer science
The Newcastle University is currently offering three years PhD Studentship in computer science. The successful candidate will investigate the applicability of these ideas to UK physical infrastructure.

Description
We are involved in a major project that studies physical infrastructures such as transport, energy and water. Computing (ICT) already plays a crucial role in monitoring and controlling such systems. As well as general notions of “dependable systems”, we have published specific ideas on determining the specification of control systems from a statement of requirements for the combined control/physical system.

Benefit: The successful applicants will receive The stipend in the amount £14,790 (2012/13) per year.

Eligibility
To be eligible for a full award (stipend and fees) A student must have: (a) settled status in the UK, meaning they have no restrictions on how long they can stay; (b) been ‘ordinarily resident’ in the UK for 3 years prior to the start of the grant; (c) not been residing in the UK mainly for the purpose of full-time education. Candidates who are permanent legal residents in the EU qualify for the full award. The studentship is not available for candidates from outside of the EU.

Application Procedure
You must apply through the University’s online application form inserting reference number CS041 and selecting ‘PhD COMP’, with programme code 8050F, as programme of study.  Mandatory fields need to be completed and a covering letter, CV and (if English is not your first language) a copy of your English language qualifications must be attached. Covering letter must state title of studentship, quote reference number CS041 and describe research interests (max. 2 pages). If you already have published research papers a list of these providing bibliographic details should be included in covering letter.   You should send your covering letter and CV by e-mail to Catherine McAndrew (cs.pg@ncl.ac.uk), Postgraduate Secretary.
