Description
The Nordic Africa Institute, which encourages research and studies on Africa in the Nordic countries, invites applications for a couple of scholarships for a one or two months stay at the Institute to study at the Institute's library.

The purpose of the scholarship is to offer PhD candidates links to the existing research at the Nordic Africa Institute and to provide access to resources at the institute, such as the NAI library with its large collection of literature on contemporary Africa (books, periodicals, newspapers, government publications).

Benefits: The scholarships cover travel expenses to and from Uppsala and include a shared office and free accommodation at Gästhem Samariten, centrally located in Uppsala.

Eligibility

PhD candidates at universities and research centres in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) awarding doctoral degrees in social sciences and humanities, are eligible candidates, regardless of citizenship.

The PhD research should relate to current research at the Institute. The research at the Institute is organized into broad thematic clusters. The current clusters are Conflict, Security and Democratic Transformation; Urban Dynamics; Rural and Agrarian Change, Property and Resources; and Globalization, Trade and Regional Integration. The application should indicate which of the different research clusters the PhD candidate intends to link up with during the time as scholarship holder and in which ways the PhD research relates to the research cluster.

This scholarship programme is directed at scholars in Africa, engaged in research on the African continent. Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply for these scholarships.

Description
One important task of the Nordic Africa Institute is to establish and maintain relations with African research communities. This is inter alia carried out through a Guest Researchers’ Scholarship Programme, the aim of which is to provide opportunities for African scholars to pursue their own research projects, thereby indirectly strengthening the academic milieux in African countries, and promoting scholarly exchange with Nordic research communities.

Eligibility
The Guest Researchers’ Scholarship Programme is directed at scholars in Africa engaged in research on/about the African continent and with a proven track record of extensive research experience. The applicant should be placed at or affiliated with an African university or other African research institution. We would especially like to encourage women to apply for these scholarships.

For the 2013/2014 academic year, the University of the Arts London is offering postgraduate scholarships for international MA and PhD students.  Scholarships will be awarded to individuals with the ability and potential to make an exceptional contribution in the art, design, communication or performance worlds.

Benefits: Each International Graduate Scholarship is worth the tuition fees of the selected MA course. Tuition fees will be paid directly to the University. Successful candidates must bring their award letter to enrollment.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship on The New Transparency Project The Post-doctoral Fellowship are sought within a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)-funded project on The New Transparency at Queen's University in Kingston, Canada. The candidates will be expected to work with The New Transparency research team to support the online dissemination of existing research findings and conduct research related to the major project Transparent Lives: Surveillance in Canada. One Post-doctoral Fellowship ($36,000 CAD + benefits) is available for one year, starting date as soon as possible.

Description
This is a seven-year Major Collaborative Research Initiative (MCRI) project (2008-2015). The successful applicant will be working with The New Transparency research team to support the online dissemination of existing research findings and conduct research related to the major project Transparent Lives: Surveillance in Canada. This project is a current assessment of surveillance investigating the major forms of monitoring, tracking, tracing, recording and processing of personal data in the full range of organizations, both governmental and commercial, in the Canadian context.

Benefits
This Post-doctoral Fellowship ($36,000 CAD + benefits) is available for one year, starting date as soon as possible.

Eligibility
  • Applicants must have an demonstrable interest in surveillance studies. Experience with bilingualism (French and English), and statistical analysis would be an asset.
  • Applicants should have a PhD in the social sciences. Opportunities will be given to pursue some original research and some teaching responsibilities may be available to suitably qualified candidates.

The SHPE Foundation Scholarships are specially offered for Latino students pursuing degrees in engineering, math and science. The amount of the scholarship is $1,000 – $5,000.

Description
The main consideration in selecting the recipients of the SHPE Foundation Scholarships is merit-based and need-based scholarships. Students must be deserving Latino/a high school graduating seniors, undergraduate students, and graduate students who demonstrate both significant motivation and aptitude for a career in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

Eligibility

Description
The successful applicants of the BUTEX undergraduate scholarship will be awarded funds worth £500 and will be paid to the winners once they have arrived and registered at their host university for each recipient.
